There are many resources out there for writers hoping to market their work. These are just a few that we have found to be helpful:
Poets and Writers Magazine A bi-monthly publication; each issue contains an extensive classifieds section, which lists contests, calls for submissions, grants, and fellowship opportunities. Hands-down, this is one of the best places to start!
Writer’s Market, Poet’s Market, Novel and Short Story Writer’s Market These useful books are published annually and contain current information on publishers’ submission guidelines and contact information.
Making the Perfect Pitch: How to Catch a Literary Agent’s Eye (edited by Katherine Sands) This is an excellent collection of essays written by literary agents; the book describes the reality of the industry today—that writers must have a sound platform and marketing plan before approaching an agent. The guide also contains sample query letters, as well as sound, current advice for writers.
Writer’s Digest Visit their site on line and check out their annual list of 101 Best Websites for Writers and their “Funds for Writers” newsletter.
The Writer The essential resource for writers since 1887.
The Writer’s Chronicle To keep in touch with the latest ideas, debates, and controversies in contemporary literature and education, this resource has been offering advice since 1967.
